The Fair Work Commission has determined that the National Minimum Wage will increase by 5.2%. However, Modern Awards will increase by 4.6% unless the minimum weekly wage prescribed by the relevant Modern Award is less than $869.60.
If the relevant Modern Award wage is less than $869.60 per week, the minimum weekly rate of pay will increase by a flat $40.00 per week. For example: Level 1 in General Retail Industry Award 2020 will increase by $40 per week to $885.50.
The National Minimum Wage and minimum wages in most Modern Awards will increase from 1 July 2022 including:
- General Retail Industry Award 2020
- Fast Food Industry Award 2010
- Clerks – Private Sector Award 2020
- Hair and Beauty Industry Award 2010
- National Minimum Wage
- National Training Wage (Miscellaneous Award 2020)
The rates of pay in the Restaurant Industry Award 2020 will increase from 1 October 2022.
